I was all ready to sit down and make an infographic for this post, but then I Googled top 5 best fats and found that Dr. Axe had already created one – and better than I would have done, so I’m going to post his and give him the credit. I love his stuff, by the way, so be sure to check out his site!
Dr. Axe’s fav five fats are also my fav five, but I’d like to offer some additional information beyond the infographic below. First,
First, Avocados have gobs of healthy fiber, which helps you burn fat off your body for a number of reasons.
Second, grass-fed butter and ghee have high amounts of CLA – a certain type of fat that helps you burn more body fat.
Third, coconut oil has high amounts of MCT – another type of fat that literally stokes your body’s fat burning furnace.
Fourth, olive oil should be used for dressings and ingredients, but not cooking. Use oils with a higher flash point, like ghee, avocado oil and coconut oil.
Fifth, get your omega 3’s!! Even if you have to supplement it (in case you don’t eat fish or grass fed red meats) you must have it! The best supplement I have found is krill oil from cold, clean waters.
And a couple honorable mentions (not mentioned in the infographic below) are fat from organic, pasture-raised eggs (the yolk) and organic nut and seed fats (especially walnuts and flax, but all nuts and seeds should be consumed in moderation).
Lastly, we should mention our least fav fats because you should stop eating these fats immediately: All trans fats (i.e. hydrogenated) and most vegetable oils (not listed in this post), starting with the worst offenders: canola, corn and soybean oil. For a bigger list, click here to get it in another post.
